The following items are some things to consider with you and your family before sitting down with a New Home Consultant.
Mortgage Pre-Approval:
Finding out the scope of what you can afford is important in the buying process. This helps you to identify your expenses; what you spend on (activities, clothes etc), and what sort of mortgage you would be comfortable with.
Location & Neighborhood:
Location, location, location. How long does it take for you to get to work, the bank, and the gym? Is it in an area that’s affordable and one you like? The perfect location will be different for different people. Someone who loves the country may not have the same time frame as to someone else that loves a fast paced environment and wants to be within walking distance of everything. If you have children you probably would like to be located in a good school district, close to a park or in a cul-de-sac. Location is important, and understanding what sort of home you are looking for helps to determine what appeals for you and your family.
The Right Size:
When choosing the right size of home there are a few factors to take a look at. Some people like to consider what the population looks for in a home as well for a better resale value. If this is the case most families look for a three or four bedroom homes where the bedrooms are located on the same floor for new parents. Two bedrooms appeal to more of the first time home buyers, singles or seniors.
Another factor to consider is square footage and design. Often you can use a smaller amount of square footage but the home appears larger because of the design. You want to keep in mind what you need today and what you will need in the future. Give yourself some space to expand.
The Right Style:
The style of home is important as well, for it helps determine what kind of home you are looking for. Finding the right style for you means you have to start asking yourself some questions. Where would you like to live? Would it be downtown or on the outskirts? What does your family do for activities and how does that affect what to buy? What are the needs of everyone and how can we achieve that? Do you like the quiet or are you more of an entertainer?
All of these items help to find your right style. Each of these questions can help determine location, exposure of the home, square footage, size of the lot and whether you prefer a two story, bi-level or bungalow.
